TaoNotes 2007 (TM) now comes in only one shareware version - TaoNotes 2007 Pro.
Freeware version of the product is not supported anymore.
The distribution package is a single executable file that includes all necessary files to install unregistered feature-limited demo version of the program.
The distribution package includes the electronic version of documentation in the HTML format.

The TaoNotes 2007 Pro software is distributed as shareware. This means you have to buy full-featured product to legaly use it. But you can evaluate it on a time-limited basis (30 days).

The TaoNotes 2007 Pro software is actively developing. This means there are rather frequent updates.
To distinquish one update from another application has special version number. This version number serves the purpose of identification how old is distribution package is.

All updates could be separated into 2 main categories:
Major releases.
Small updates.
The first number in the version indicates major release number. The after-point number indicates minor update number.
Getting Update notifications
Users can receive email notifications if they are subscribed to taonotes@googlegroups.com mailing list.
Actitrend software has not responsibilities on delivering updated versions to the end user (no matter registered one or not).
It's on behalf of the user to download updated version from our site.
Distribution
The end user has no rights to modify and distribute modified or unmodified package if there is no special agreement with the Actitrend software.
Choosing Installation Location
TaoNotes 2007 (TM) could be installed on any drive (local, network, removable media, including flash drive) that has more than 10 Mb of free space and has assigned drive letter.
You can not install it on floppy disk due to limited space.
Tip: If your corporate security policy does not allow to install TaoNotes on local/network drives you can run it from any Flash/Jump-Drive USB plugged-in.

Then you have to choose the place where TaoNotes will be installed. (remember, you have option to install it on removable media like FlashDrive).

Before You Upgrade
If you already have TaoNotes installed then you could take additional step to care of data files you have (in the case they brings meaningful information you've entered earlier).
It's a good idea to create backup of your data files before update. Your data files are located in the [TaoNotes]/n3d directory ([TaoNotes] - is directory where TaoNotes installed).

Launch installation file taopros.exe (or sometimes taonotes.exe - depends on where you downloaded it from). So the installation begins. Installation Wizard first page appears. It says that it will install TaoNotes x.xx (version number) on your computer. Click Next to continue.
Next Wizard Page is License Agreement. Read it. Then if you are agree click "I accept the agtreement" radio button, then Next button to continue.
Next Wizard page is Select Destination Location. By default the installation tries to install application in predefined folder by its own choice. Let's call the directory path where TaoNotes will be installed as [TaoNotes]. If you would like to select another location click Browse button and select it. When you choosed directory click Next button.
If [TaoNotes] folder already exists you will be prompted The folder [TaoNotes] already exists. Would you like to install to that folder anyway?. Click Yes to continue installation.
Next Wizard page is Select Start Menu Folder. By default it's called TaoNotes. No reasons to change it usually. Click Next button to continue.
Next Wizard page is Select Additional Tasks. Here you can set to create Desktop and Quick Launch Icons or not. Check/uncheck appropriate checkmarks then click Next button to continue.
Next Wizard page is Ready To Install. It's just final confirmation waiting before actual installation process. Click Install button to continue.
Then extracting and installing files process begins. Sometimes it asks Would you like Setup to overwrite file? Where is the file from your previous installation (if you have TaoNotes previously installed). If this file contains the data you entered answer No, if does not matter - answer Yes.
Then Important Information is displayed to be read. Click Next to continue.
Next page is Completing TaoNotes Installation Wizard. There is option to launch TaoNotes right after clicking Finish button. So you have to click Finish button to end with installation.
If you checked Launch TaoNotes right now! option then application is launched automatically. If not goto MS Windows Start->Programs->TaoNotes->TaoNotes menu and launch it from there.
Uninstalling
Goto MS Windows Start->Programs->TaoNotes->Uninstall Taonotes.
This will uninstall all TaoNotes from original installation but your newly created data files (notebooks) will left untouched. You can delete them manualy.
Installation FAQ
Should I uninstall TaoNotes and then install each new release as a clean install?
No! You should not unistall it every time you install new version! I'll say
more....
if you already have some data in outlines and you uninstall application... the data will be lost!!! Do not do it! Instead, install over prev.

What other application is TaoNotes using?
TaoNotes may use other MS Windows applications if you have them installed on your computer. Strong intergation is possible with:
default HTML browser;
MS Office Applications;
MS Windows Explorer;
default text viewer.
What browser is TaoNotes using?
For viewing HTML output TaoNotes produces you will need a browser program. Any default browser on your system will suit. Supported browsers are MS Internet Explorer, Mozilla Browsers, Netscape Navigator, SeaMonkey, FireFox, Opera.
How much space does TaoNotes need to be installed?
< 10 Mb.
What is recommended screen resolution?
1024x728 or more.
I can not find a freeware version. Where is it?
We abandoned the development of a freeware version. So you can not download it anymore.
Should I quit running TaoNotes on upgrading?
Yes. You should close running application before updating. But you do not have to uninstall it.
Can I install demo-version (unregistered version on many machines)?
Yes. You can install a few copies for evaluating purposes. But you should uninstall them after 30-days of trialing.
Can I install registered version on many machines?
No. You can install the registered version on one computer only.
Is it true, that the registered version is binded to the computer specific parameter (like Processor ID, etc)?
No. You can install the registered version any computer and do not have to worry about binding with hardware.
Can I install TaoNotes on Flash Drive?
Definitely yes. If your Flash Drive is identified on your system and it has assigned drive letter then you can install TaoNotes directly into Flash Drive. Another way is to copy the whole directory where TaoNotes installed on local drive to the Flash Drive and then make a shortcut to the executable file Taonotes.exe
What is difference between demo-version and registered version?
Save command is disabled in demo-version. So you can do whatever but your work will not be saved on your request. But there is possibility to save it via every 10-min autosaving (if this option is turned on).
If I will install a few copies of TaoNotes in different cataloges will they work simultaneously?
No. It's allowed to run only one copy of TaoNotes per time...
What is your upgrade policy?
Once registered you have all major and minor update for free for particular application edition you ordered... in other words we have lifetime upgrade policy.
TaoNotes comes with some predefined notebooks but the user can add own notebooks with ease.
